THE JOURNEY
THE JOURNEY
Leave Queenstown behind and travel one way through some of the South Island’s most contrasting landscapes. Follow the road into Fiordland and Milford Sound, turn east toward Dunedin and the coast, then continue through the Waitaki region into the high country beneath Aoraki / Mount Cook. By the time you reach Christchurch via Tekapō, the scenery has shifted from deep green fjordland to open coastline and brilliant alpine lakes—all in four days, without retracing the route.
DAY BY DAY
Into Fiordland and Milford Sound
Queenstown → Milford Sound → Te Anau
Overnight: Te AnauLeave Queenstown and follow the road deep into Fiordland. Mountains, forested valleys and changing light build anticipation before Milford Sound opens into view. A Milford Sound cruise is not implied as included; any cruise depends on the confirmed arrangements, weather and operator availability.
From Te Anau to the east coast
Te Anau → Dunedin → Moeraki → Oamaru
Overnight: OamaruLeave the fjordland behind and travel east toward Dunedin, then follow the coast north. The day brings a different South Island character: from inland landscapes to the Pacific edge, with time to take in the famous boulders at Moeraki before arriving in Oamaru for the evening.
