THE JOURNEY
THE JOURNEY
Leave Queenstown and head north on a true one-way crossing of the South Island. Ease into the journey around Wānaka, then cross Haast Pass through rainforest and river valleys toward glacier country. Follow the open, rugged West Coast to Punakaiki before turning inland over Arthur’s Pass and arriving in Christchurch. Four days bring a remarkable change of scenery—from lakes and mountain roads to rainforest, glaciers, limestone coast and alpine passes—with no need to retrace the route.
